About

Soddy, Daisy & Montlake Historical Association

Our History

For many years the idea of a historical association had been discussed but nothing had been done beyond talk. In the fall of 2015, a group of local residents decided we must get beyond just talk. We must form a historical association to begin the collecting of local history to include photographs, old maps, documents of local importance and of course the collecting of locally significant relics. On September 28, 2015 we were recognized by the State of Tennessee as a Corporation having our own Charter and By-Laws. We received our IRS 501.c.3 on June 14, 2017.

Our Mission

We strive to preserve our area's rich heritage and shared history for future generations. Our focus includes the communities of Soddy, Daisy & Montlake, as well as nearby areas such as Mowbray and Flat Top Mountain.

In 2023 we were able to purchase the building that houses our growing collection, providing a permanent home to the many relics we have been entrusted with.

Soddy museum

Steve Smith, President of SDMHA, presents check to the building owner and supporter, Scott Brogdan.

Thanks to generous donations of our supporters, in 2023 SDMHA purchased the 102-year-old building that houses our museum. We thank everyone who donated to preserve the past by investing in our future at the historic Soddy Bank building! Not only do we have World War II items but we have things from Daisy, Montlake and a lot on the coal mines from this area. Coal is what put Soddy, Daisy & Montlake on the map and we want to celebrate the mining days in this area with the relics, maps and photos we have on display. Come spend a day with us soon.
