The Historic Soddy Banking Company Building
Sept. 10, 2024
The first week of September has brought a much anticipated announcement from the State of Tennessee regarding the formation of its 59th State Park. The 6,000 acre tract has been set aside for its recreational beauty, great hiking trails, and fantastic swimming holes, top notched kayaking (when weather permits), bouldering and rock climbing in the North Chickamauga Creek Gorge. In time, there will be an asphalted parking lot, bathrooms and park ranger presence. A visitor is encouraged to visit either in the morning or on the weekdays, when, they hope, it will not be as crowded as they think it will be on the weekends.
We strive to preserve our area's rich heritage and shared history for future generations. The museum is housed in the old Soddy Banking Company building at the corner of Wall and Depot Streets. See displays and artifacts representing the local history of the Soddy, Daisy and Montlake communities. Our collection includes early settlement and frontier days, the Civil War, and the mining era and into the 20th century, charting this area's growth as a major town. Exhibits change seasonally and are rotated to cover this expanse of history.
We are certainly proud of this area's rich history.
